Belgium Nationals 2015

Standard

TanksI decided on a whim to go to Brussels for the Belgian National event. The UK Netrunners are nothing if not keen and travel up and down the country for event, so it didn’t seem that much further to go to the continent. Having booked Worlds already, a couple of hours on a plane to Brussels didn’t seem too much of a hardship. In the event I stopped over with a friend and made a weekend of it, exploring the city, visiting the military museum and so forth, then stuffing my face with Jambonneau (whole ham hock) and drinking Rochefort 8 (9.2% ABV) until 3am.

Quinns UK Inter-City Friendly

Standard

IMG_20150613_120822The affable Quinns (Top 16 qualifier at Nationals) organised an inter-city special tournament. With the weird UK official tournament season being compressed into a few short weeks and a National Champion already decided, it’s left to the community at large to organise their own fun before Worlds comes round. Each team brings four people from their city and must represent all seven factions among their decks. This proved wildly popular (the UK Netrunner community is nothing if not keen) and so had to be capped at 60 people or 15 teams due to the size of the venue. Several towns and cities were disappointed by not being able to get a place, but that only leads me to believe these events will grow and develop as time goes on. Our FLGS has already started talking of a large venue in Nottingham he could use and I know the folk from Worcester area and others are thinking of their own tournaments.

UK Games Expo – Uroborus Cup 2015

Standard

Sunday was the day of the second Uroborus Cup – a side event for people wanting more Netrunner after Nationals or giving people without a ticket for the main event a chance to get some Hot Tournament Action in. I think there were 67 people signed up in the end – including me, as I’d dropped my mate off for the Doomtown tournament and decided to squeeze in last minute for some Nets. I got a bit jaded after a couple of games to be honest, as my decks needed changes after the previous day’s fun and I kept seeing cards I didn’t want anymore, but enough of my sulkiness, on to the games!

UK Nationals 2015

Standard

Nationals1The UK Nationals is held at UK Games Expo, a great weekend out if you like your geekery, and going from strength to strength – expanding beyond the Hilton Metropole next year and expecting 10-15k attendees. The Netrunner event was held in a marquee, and had sold out with 170 tickets plus Regional byes – and could have sold more had space not been limited by Expo itself.
