Nordic National Championships 2015

Standard

I did Belgium, why not Nordics? I like the Northern Europeans as a whole and this was a good opportunity to make an extended weekend of it in Copenhagen and have a good break. Flights with SAS were cheap enough and decent, I picked a good hotel and worked out trains, and all was well with the world.

Belgium Nationals 2015

Standard

TanksI decided on a whim to go to Brussels for the Belgian National event. The UK Netrunners are nothing if not keen and travel up and down the country for event, so it didn’t seem that much further to go to the continent. Having booked Worlds already, a couple of hours on a plane to Brussels didn’t seem too much of a hardship. In the event I stopped over with a friend and made a weekend of it, exploring the city, visiting the military museum and so forth, then stuffing my face with Jambonneau (whole ham hock) and drinking Rochefort 8 (9.2% ABV) until 3am.

Quinns UK Inter-City Friendly

Standard

IMG_20150613_120822The affable Quinns (Top 16 qualifier at Nationals) organised an inter-city special tournament. With the weird UK official tournament season being compressed into a few short weeks and a National Champion already decided, it’s left to the community at large to organise their own fun before Worlds comes round. Each team brings four people from their city and must represent all seven factions among their decks. This proved wildly popular (the UK Netrunner community is nothing if not keen) and so had to be capped at 60 people or 15 teams due to the size of the venue. Several towns and cities were disappointed by not being able to get a place, but that only leads me to believe these events will grow and develop as time goes on. Our FLGS has already started talking of a large venue in Nottingham he could use and I know the folk from Worcester area and others are thinking of their own tournaments.

Worcester Store Championships 2015

Standard

With the Nottingham Massive busy preparing for the Chimera tournament the following day, I had to fly solo to the Manaleak Worcester Store Championships. My satnav got upset by the Labyrinthine Servers surrounding Birmingham and was sending me back up and down two roundabouts on the M40 (or somewhere) until I banked into a business park and did Purge Viruses. I obviously didn’t get them all, as the strange female voice was all like “keep right” “keep right” “keep right” “TURN LEFT NOW” as I passed the Worcester exit. Not enough change for the car park, so I had to phone it in and then the shop itself didn’t appear to exist and instead of being an hour early, I’m three minutes from the start and don’t even know what’s happening.
